Post Death Deeds of Variation and Inheritance Tax Planning
Post death variations of a Will or on Intestacy are an excellent way of Inheritance Tax Planning by a beneficiary to re-direct their inheritance from an estate to reduce the Inheritance Tax payable at the date of death.
They also provide an opportunity for beneficiaries to ensure that an estate passes in accordance with the known wishes of the person who has died, where a Will was not updated or did not provide adequately for a dependant, for whatever reason.
When administering an estate, a post death variation can serve to maximise the taxation reliefs available and ensure that the beneficiaries maximise the benefit from their inheritance.
